First Aid and PDT (Preventing Disease Transmission) Training

This course is a combination of First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens Training.

First Aid Training

The purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid course is to provide individuals in the workplace the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. This course does not include information on breathing and cardiac emergencies. Certification lasts for 3 years.

Blood Borne Pathogens Training

The purpose of the American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens Training is preventing disease transmission. The course is designed to teach:

·  How blood borne pathogens are spread

·  How to help prevent exposure incidents

·  How to recognize, report, and follow-up on employee exposures to infectious materials

This certification is valid indefinitely, but OSHA regulations indicate that training in PDT must be conducted annually.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training 

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding program provides individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to keep patrons of aquatic facilities safe in and around water. This program includes a lifeguard training course with aquatic-specific First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training. This training will include the proper use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and how to protect yourself following Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) procedures. The Lifeguarding & First Aid certification is valid for 3 years from the last day of the course. The CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Lifeguard certification is valid for 1 year.

These are long days; please remember to pack a lunch and bring warm clothes.

Note: Class may be let out early each day due to advanced course progression or instructor discretion. Minimum enrollment for a Lifeguard class is 5 individuals–if this minimum is not met, you have the option for a full refund or rescheduling for a different course date.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Challenges (for certified ARC Lifeguards) are offered on the final day of the Lifeguard class. Please contact (713) 743 – SWIM (7946) for information or to register.


American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Training 

To train instructor candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding, Waterpark Lifeguarding, and Shallow Water Attendant (all including First Aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water rescue Courses. Candidates will also become familiar with GuardStart: Lifeguarding tomorrow and the Water Safety Presentations. Certification is valid for 2 calendar years.

Water Safety Instructor Training

The purpose of this course is to train instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses, six levels of Learn-to-Swim, three levels of Pre-School Aquatics, and two levels of Parent and Child Aquatics. Authorization is for two calendar years. All authorizations expire on December 31 of each year. Initial authorization may be for more or less than two years depending on the time of course completion.
