Will a YMCA certification for lifeguard or swim instructor be acceptable? Or should I see if there is a cross over class to Red Cross?

Yes, a YMCA certification is acceptable. You still need to test out of the American Red Cross skills. We usually have you assessed. Depending on your performance, we either recommend you take a course or just do a test out challenge.
